Mission Statements
The mission of The Fine Arts Department is to provide students an opportunity to flourish as artists and create meaningful connections with our community. We will empower and enrich the development of the arts by instilling a sense of culture, pride, higher level thinking, and lifelong learning.
The mission of the World Languages Department is to promote linguistic and cultural literacy while cultivating a life-long appreciation and enthusiasm for languages and the cultures they reflect. We believe that all students can learn a new language and that a global mind-set is a necessity and an asset today. The study of world languages is an interdisciplinary pursuit and it intrinsically helps students view issues from a global perspective.

Cletis Seals Jr.
Fine Arts (Band/Choir)
Cletis Seals began his musical journey as a church musician, learning to play the drum set for the church youth choir. It was here that he learned about patience and persistence in learning a craft. If it is worth it, it does not matter how long it takes to mater the craft, but that the craft gets mastered. In the forth grade, Ms. Seals began participating in his middle school band program, where he developed his passion and drive to have a career in music.
Ms. Seals, a graduate of the first class of the Proviso Math and Science Academy, participated in band at both PMSA and Proviso East, under the direction of Mr. Wright, who still serves as a teacher and mentor for Mr. Seals. After high school, Mr. Seals went on to attend South Carolina State University, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education. While at South Carolina State University, Mr. Seals was a part of the honors program, marched in the university’s “Marching 101” band, and pledged the Nu Iota Chapter of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity of America, Inc., the oldest and largest music fraternity in the world, where he served as chapter president for two years. The balance of academics, marching band, leadership in a fraternity and a social life is what helped Ms. Seals to develop and shape the standard for work ethic that he expects from his students, as well as his philosophy of education, student leadership and how to shape music.
Upon graduating from South Carolina State University in 2014, Mr. Seals was employed as a Teachers Assistant at a charter school, while volunteering with the PEHS Marching Band. The following year, in 2015, Mr. Seals was hired as the Band Director at Proviso East High School, taking over for his mentor, Mr. Wright. Through many struggles and setbacks, the PEHS Band Program, under the direction of Ms. Seals, has once again become a noteworthy, rounded program with several different bands (Marching, Concert and Jazz). The current philosophy of Mr. Seals and the PEHS Band program is “If good could be better, the good is not good enough”
