Social Worker  STEM Academy

Ms. Melissa Amison is a School Social Worker who has been involved in education for 12 years. Currently, she holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology from Northern Illinois University and three master’s in Social Work from the University of Illinois at Chicago-Jane Addams School of Social Work, Educational Administration at Dominican University and School Business Management from Northern Illinois University. Ms. Amison began her career as a Social Worker in Child Welfare (e.g. group homes, foster care, therapist, etc.) and as an Early Childhood Mental Health Consultant. She later transitioned to education as a School Social Worker in a therapeutic day and public schools. Over the years, Ms. Amison has worked as a Lead School Social Worker, Out-of- District Student Resource Team Leader for high schools, SRT Leader for Elementary Schools, and a Director of Student Services for Pre-K to eigth grade. Ms. Amison enjoys working with learners in pre-k, elementary, middle school, high school and post-secondary programs. She has worked 15 years in providing social work and she is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker.

Ms. Amison, a graduate of Proviso West, grew up in Broadview and Bellwood.  She spends her time running her own private practice, being involved in her sorority, and making jewelry.  Ms. Amison is a strong believer in “being a rainbow in someone’s cloud” by Maya Angelou.
