On March 8th, 2021, Governor J.B. Pritzker signed House Bill 2170 into law at Proviso East High School. The bill, which is also known as the Education and Workforce Equity Act, was drafted by the Illinois Legislative Black Caucus, and addresses early childhood, primary, secondary, and higher education.
Governor Pritzker was also joined by Proviso East Alumni and now State Senate Majority Leader, Kimberly Lightford, who took time out of her schedule to listen to Proviso East senior, Reina Carter, who prepared a speech to explain what this law means to her and future generations of minority students in Illinois.
