- Proviso East High School
IMPORTANT Back to School Information
Summer has flown by and it’s time to head back to the classroom! Our teams are revved up and ready to invest into each and every one of our scholars. We are on the Northbound Train to Greatness, and we will not reach our final stop until we have improved academic outcomes and launched our scholars into the GREATNESS we know they will achieve.
I wanted to take a moment to give you a few details about the start of school. But first, I am personally inviting each of you to our Back to School Bash. It will be held this Friday, August 20th from 3:30 pm until 5:30 pm at the Proviso West Football stadium. We’ve got multiple activities lined up – including ziplining, basketball, a gaming truck, dance, dance revolution, tug of war, volleyball, face painting, and more. We will also be giving out free bookbags, school supplies, haircuts and food. A live DJ will be onsite to keep the party going. Here are the specifics:
- Students will be released from school at 2:45 pm on Friday, August 20th.
- Students who attend East and PMSA will be bussed over to West to attend the Bash. They will be bussed back to their schools for parent pick up around 6 pm. Parents may also pick their students up at West.
- Students are not required to attend the Bash. Those who do not attend the Bash will proceed as they normally would at the end of a school day.
- This is a free community event, and we encourage you to attend as a family. It is located at 4701 Harrison Street in Hillside. Parking will be available off Harrison Street.
First Day of Classes:
- Freshman and Sophomore students will start school on Friday, August 20th.
- Juniors and Seniors will start school on Monday, August 23rd.
Bus transportation is available for students who attend East and West. First Student, our bus provider, is experiencing a severe driver shortage, like most school districts across the nation. It also impacts us locally. First Student has adjusted our route times to ensure students arrive at school safely and prior to the start of classes. Please click on the link below to review your child’s information, which has most likely changed.

The adjusted schedule means some students will board the bus approximately 30-40 minutes after dismissal, before heading home. They will be supervised until they board the bus. We will keep you informed of any updates.
Daily Wellness Checks:
We’re using the HealthCheck app to assist with our daily wellness checks. In the next few days, you’ll be receiving an email from them with instructions on how to activate your account and log in. Be sure to change your password the first time you access the program.
Students will use this app each morning to submit information about any symptoms they may be experiencing before they arrive to school. This should be done even if they are feeling well. Once the questions in the app have been answered, the student will receive a QR code. This code will be scanned when they report to school. Students who have any symptoms of illness will get a yellow or red box alert, which means they should stay home from school and consult with a physician.
Breakfast and Lunch
All students who attend Proviso East, West, and PMSA receive a free breakfast and lunch, daily. We are committed to making sure no child in our District goes hungry. This will lead to greater academic outcomes. And, with our new and improved menu options, students will have healthy and delicious meals to choose from.
If you have any questions, please feel free to email me at Superintendent209@pths209.org or call me at 708-676-6169 between 6 am-8 am or 6 pm-6 pm. Together, we will guide our scholars to success. Welcome to the Northbound Train to Greatness!
