Welcome to our new families and welcome back to our returning families.
Parents, I will begin my letter by saying thank you, thank you for sharing, and collaborating. You embraced our school, our teachers, and our administration. Together we embraced our children's future; our children of today and our children of tomorrow will continue to walk the halls of PMSA with pride. Your continued support and perseverance strengthened our PMSA family and now we can continue our journey to be the best of the best! I would also like to extend a special thank you to our PTO president, Mrs. Anissa Butler-Burrell who continues to put in extensive hours and time to help organize our parents and community to support our school. PMSA would not be what we are today if it was not for the power and strength of our parents. According to 5- Essential survey, PMSA is ranked as "well-organized." You are the foundation of our school; you helped make this happen. On behalf of my staff and administration we thank you for all you do and continue to do for our children and school.
As parents and educators, we share, we collaborate, we learn, and we grow as individuals when we celebrate the academic growth of our children. When we embrace our school, our teachers, our administration, and our community, we are embracing our children's future. Our children's future signifies the future of our country. This is what Proviso Mathematics and Science Academy represents: an institution of advanced rigor, high standards and access to a direct pathway in pursuit of academic excellence. With that said, we are excited to share that PMSA has been ranked 7th in the state and 175th nationally out of approximately 17,245 high schools and now holds the title of a Gold Medal School. The accolades for 2019 do not stop here. In 2018 we were nominated for the National Blue Ribbon award. In 2019, we received that award. This is the highest honor any school can achieve.
Also, parents and guardians, please be informed that last year the Board of Education developed a Compact in order to increase parental involvement and participation in our schools. Parents are required to check the student performance tracking system (Power School). They shall check on assignment completions, grades, absences, tardies and discipline actions. You will be asked to sign this Compact as a memorandum of understanding and will be kept on file in the school building. Please read the Board Policy that is on our district website. When you come to PMSA feel free to discuss it with Mr. Bresich if you have any further questions or call me at ext.5906.
And finally, I would like to share with you that I have a new title that has been added to my existing title as your principal. I am the new Chief Innovation Officer of District 209/Principal. We have a new and exciting department in our district that I will oversee. New innovations and ideas to promote student achievement for our district will be supported from this department. I am honored to accept that responsibility and look forward to the implementation of our new district innovations. Mr. Breisch will be the "Assistant Principal in Charge of PMSA." We both look forward to serving our PMSA families and our district.
Again, welcome back to our new school year. Enjoy the last week of summer break. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call me at 708-338-5906.
