Family and Community Engagement
The District 209 Board of Education has established a goal of empowering students, families and communities. A Family and Community Engagement strategic initiative was developed to help meet that goal.
At the beginning of the 2017-2018 school year, Parent Coordinators were hired and Parent Centers were opened at Proviso East and Proviso West. Dr. Eva Kardaras is the Parent Coordinator at Proviso East and Ms. Delinda Hyde is the Parent Coordinator at Proviso West. Please click on the links, below, to visit the Parent Center web page for each school.
The Family and Community Engagement strategic initiative also included the implementation of a community schools model. We offer a series of workshops in the Parent Centers that are designed for parents. Ms. Noemi Mendieta is the Community Schools Coordinator who works closely with our Parent Coordinators to design and implement our workshops.
The School-Parent Compact is defines how the parent, the entire school staff, and the student will share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement. It also defines how the school and parents will work together to build and develop a partnership that will help students achieve the State’s high standards. All parents are asked to read and review the compact with their child.
Once you have read and reviewed the compact, you can click HERE to complete an electronic acknowledgement of receipt and review. Copies of each school's compact are available at the links shown, below:
We have created a video to assist parents with understanding how the schools and parents can work together to meet the shared responsibilities described in the School-Parent Compact.
