The annual Rivalry Week basketball games between Proviso East and Proviso West were heated affairs, as the large crowds were treated to exciting, nail-biting contests in both the girls’ and boys’ games in the Proviso East Fieldhouse.
The girls kicked off the week on Thursday, February 5, as Proviso East held on after a furious second-half rally from a deficit of as many as 16 points by the Lady Panthers to secure the 68-65 victory. They were led by Diamond Coleman, who led the Pirates with 17 points. She also was one of four Proviso East players with double-doubles, with her 17 points and 10 rebounds leading along with Cinia McCray (11 points/11 rebounds), Jasmine Levy (10 points/10 rebounds), and Savannah Clark (10 points/11 rebounds).
Proviso West was paced by the play of Mariah Henry, a sophomore guard who led all scorers with 19 points.
