Proviso West NJROTC Named a Distinguished Unit With Honors

May 28, 2015 02:45 PM
The Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps unit at Proviso West High School has been designated as a Distinguished Unit with honors for its area.
The Proviso West unit is part of Area Three, which includes schools from Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois. This is the first time in its 12 year history that the program has been recognized in this way. As a distinguished unit with honors, Proviso West ranks as one of the best NJROTC units in the country. The unit continues to shine among area NJROTC units, having earned Distinguished Unit status in 2012 and Unit Achievement status in 2013 and 2014.
Our cadets earned this award based on their academic performance, their military drill, and their community service. The Distinguished Unit ribbon will be awarded to every cadet in the program for their outstanding efforts this year. The unit will also receive a ribbon that the unit guide-on will be able to carry this year at all the drill competitions.
Special recognition also needs to go to Cadet Commanding Officer Kyana Rockett, Cadet Executive Officer Divontae Buchanan, Cadet Command Master Chief Patricia Vazquez, and all the Cadet Staff this year.
Needless to say we are all thrilled at the recognition our cadets have earned.  Their hard work and the dedication of the parents, all the staff and teachers at Proviso West and the administration all came together to attain this honor.
Hip Hip Hooray!
Submitted by CDR Rosemarie O'Carroll, USN (Ret), Senior Naval Science Instructor at Proviso West High School.
