Proviso West NJROTC Honored at Annual Military Inspection

January 15, 2016 01:30 PM
"You passed this inspection, so great job."
Those words from commander Joseph Hankins continued what was a big night for the NJROTC unit at Proviso West High School on December 11, as the cadets showcased what they are made of during the annual military inspection.
The annual inspection involves area commanders inspecting the school’s NJROTC area. It culminated that evening with the pass in review ceremony, in which the cadets showed what they had learned to parents and others including district 209 superintendent, Dr. Nettie Collins-Hart and District 209 Board of Education President, Mrs. Theresa Kelly, who were each recognized during the ceremony.
As part of the inspection ceremony, cadet members of the unit’s drill teams demonstrated their skills. The cadets and parents also heard from Raul Jaquez, a Proviso West senior and the unit’s regiment command master chief. Raul gave credit to parents, teachers, and staff members for the unit’s success, as well as the unit’s previous master chief, Patricia Vazquez, who graduated in May 2015.
The ceremony also included the awarding of Circle Ten awards to 63 cadets for their fine work in the program, as well as the promotion of several cadets to the rank of chief.
At the end, the more than 300 cadets of the proviso west NJROTC unit impressed all who saw them.
Congratulations, cadets!
