Proviso West McTeachers’ Night Raises $750 for Prom

April 27, 2016 05:01 PM
"McTeachers’ Night" at the Hillside McDonald’s raised a total of $750 on April 21 to benefit the prom at Proviso West High School.
The three-hour event involved several Proviso West teachers and administrators that included Mr. Oscar Hawthorne, principal at Proviso West, collecting donations and working at the drive-through window. The event, sponsored by the Proviso West Class of 2016 and supported by the Hillside Police Department and the Hillside Fire Department, raised $400 in sales and $350 in cash donations, to benefit students who could not afford to attend prom on May 13 at the Hyatt O’Hare in Rosemont.
"We’re putting this event together because we’re trying to reach out to students who would like to have this kind of experience (prom) but can’t afford to go," said Ms. Connie Jesukaitis, a career and technical education teacher at Proviso West who helped to organize the event. "It was a fun evening working with the people who work at McDonald’s, working with our staff and then welcoming the community when they see the friendly faces that they identify. It’s a fun time because they’re out of their element."
Mr. Hawthorne said that it was a fun evening for everyone who participated.
"This was a great social and fundraising event for our parents and students," Mr. Hawthorne said. "The manager and staff were tremendous."
