A Proviso West High School senior has been named to the SADD National Student Leadership Council for the 2015-2016 school year.

Limni Jimenez joins nine other students who were chosen from a nationwide pool of high qualified applicants, according to a press release from SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions), a national peer-to-peer prevention, education and activism organization. The group will represent the hundreds of thousands of SADD students in chapters across the country.

Limni has served the current school year on the Illinois state SADD student advisory board.

"Limni’s leadership and her work and dedication to issues that matter to teens make her a great choice to join SADD’s National Student Leadership Council," said Dawn Teixeira, president and chief executive officer of SADD. "Drawing from her experiences on the state and local levels, Limni will provide teen insight; a critical ingredient necessary to forming our national strategy to address emerging health and safety issues facing our teens."

The Student Leadership Council advises the SADD National Board of Directors on policies and programs and plans and implements the annual SADD National Conference. Members of the Student Leadership Council represent SADD at local, regional, and national events and engagements. The members will meet several times throughout the year to accomplish their work. Limni will begin her term at the SADD National Conference in Nashville, Tennessee, in June.

Limni’s high school career reflects a clear dedication to SADD and its mission. Along with serving a term on the Illinois SADD Student Advisory Board, Limni was elected as the Proviso West High School SADD President for two consecutive years. Limni is an active member of National Honor Society and SEED Club, a group that promotes recycling among high school students. She also served as the project lead for the community-wide Pennies for Patients fundraiser, in honor of the National Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

Mr. Oscar Hawthorne, principal at Proviso West, said that he was proud of Limni and her work.

"We strive for our students to grow into leaders in the community, and Limni is a prime example of a student becoming a leader," he said. "We are proud of her accomplishment, and we know that she will represent Proviso West well on this board."

Congratulations, Limni! We know that you will represent Proviso well!
