Proviso West Counselor Wins Those Who Excel Award

Mrs. Kate Foster, college and career counselor at Proviso West High School, was awarded an Award of Recognition at the Illinois State Board of Education’s Those Who Excel Awards Banquet on Saturday, October 22, in Normal.
Mrs. Foster was among 250 educators from across Illinois to be honored at the dinner. Other awards presented at the Those Who Excel Awards banquet included Awards of Excellence, Meritorious Service, and Special Recognition, as well as the Illinois Teacher of the Year, which went to Ricky Castro, an English as a Second Language teacher at Elk Grove High School.
Attending the awards banquet with her were Dr. Jesse Rodriguez, Superintendent for District 209; Ms. Antoinette Rayburn, Manager of Career Readiness and Student Programs for District 209; Mr. Oscar Hawthorne, principal at Proviso West High School; and Mr. Rob Daniel, Community and Public Relations Coordinator for District 209.
The nomination for Mrs. Foster included mention of her work in helping families with college planning and in creating a profile to showcase the history and progress of Proviso West as well as her role in increasing the amount of scholarship money awarded to Proviso West graduates from $6.2 million in 2014 to $11.4 million for the Class of 2016. Mr. Hawthorne also had cited her work in spearheading efforts to ensure that 100 percent of Proviso West graduates knew where they were going after graduation in his nomination of her.
