Fifteen art students at Proviso West High School recently won prize ribbons for their work at Elmhurst College’s 17th Annual High School Art Exhibit.
The Proviso West students had art work displayed in the Elmhurst College high school art exhibit, which took place in January. The exhibit at the Elmhurst College campus included examples of drawings, photography, sculpture, and other media by students from 10 area high schools.
The following students were awarded ribbons for their work:
  • Blue Ribbon for Excellence: Miguel Gonzalez, Alejandra Ulteras, Vanessa Aguirre
  • Red Ribbon for Distinction: Nancy Ocampo, Destiney Ayala, Isaac Vera, Arley Teran
  • Gold Ribbon for Judge’s Choice: Cindy Martinez, Willy Gramajo, Akierah Pettigrew
  • Green Ribbon for Honors: Johnathan Burbridge, Melissa Ortega, Rafael Hernandez, Ayana Hunt
  • Special Purple Award and Scholarship: Kimberly Ayala
Mr. Oscar Hawthorne, principal at Proviso West, said that Proviso West has many talented art students.
"This exhibit is a great example of the immense talent that we have at Proviso West," he said. "The students who entered their work and those who won ribbons should be proud of themselves and of the work they have done."
Dr. Nettie Collins-Hart, superintendent of District 209, agreed, adding that the exhibit was a great showcase for the students’ talent.
"It is always great when our students’ hard work is recognized by the community," she said. "We are proud of our students, and we congratulate on their success."
Congratulations to all students who had their art work entered and to the 15 ribbon winners!
