District 209 Town Hall Meeting in Berkeley, IL

On Thursday, January 12, the Proviso Township High Schools District 209 Board of Education and Dr. Jesse J. Rodríguez, superintendent for District 209, hosted a town hall meeting at the Berkeley Public Library. Community leaders, including Village of Berkeley officials, parents, students and business owners, shared valuable input with Board members and Dr. Rodriguez that will serve as the foundation for an educational vision for PTHS 209.
Throughout the evening, participants talked about the importance of developing partnerships and engaging in collaborative work that will enhance the educational experience of PTHS 209 students. The energy and excitement was felt in the room as community members engaged in their discussion groups.
The event closed on a high note with Dr. Rodriguez inviting everyone to form a circle and in one word describe how they felt about the event, which many described as, "inspired," "happy," "connected" and "empowered."
"We value input from our community members and I want to make sure that we offer what our community needs," Dr. Rodríguez said. "I am not interested in running schools, I am interested in transforming our schools and our communities."
Mrs. Teresa D. McKelvy, president of the Board of Education, said that this is "a wonderful opportunity for our parents and community members to meet our new Superintendent and collaborate with the Board of Education."
The next town hall meetings will take place between 6:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. on the following dates:
Tuesday, January 24, 2017 – Forest Park Village Hall
Thursday, February 9, 2017 – Northlake Public Library
