D209 Team at Coaches Meeting April 14, 2018
Although it is not unusual to see D209 coaches on campus early on a Saturday morning, on April 14, 2018, they were at the District Office not for practice or a game but instead to attend a special event hosted by Superintendent Rodriguez. Superintendent Rodriguez held the first Coaches Meeting to acknowledge their significant contributions to enhance our athletic programs and empower D209 students.
Superintendent Rodriguez opened the program with a warm welcome to over forty D209 coaches. He expressed support for the District’s athletic programs and emphasized the importance of coming together in unity as One Proviso. The conversations that took place focused on strategies that will benefit student athletes from Proviso East, Proviso West and Proviso Math and Science Academy.
D209 coaches also learned about the Facility Master Plan process and shared their vision for D209’s athletic programs relative to school buildings and grounds. The coaches were welcomed to provide input to our architects and Board of Education at the next community engagement session on Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at the District Offices.
During the meeting, Proviso East Athletic Director, Dr. Brian Colbert and Proviso West Athletic Director, Mr. Calvin Davis gave an overview on the current state of the athletic programs and plans for the next school year. D209 Board President Mrs. Theresa L. Kelly and Board member Mr. Ned Wagner were also in attendance and expressed their commitment to D209 athletic programs.
Coaches enjoyed a District-wide event that gave them a chance to celebrate and collaborate with their colleagues.
Mr. Davis stated, "This event was an excellent display of support for athletics and a great way to bring the District’s athletics programs together as One Proviso. The coaches I have spoken with are enthused and very happy to have the support of the District’s top administrator; it means a lot. I know from personal experience, that if administration does not support athletic programs they will not be successful. As an athletic director I am very pleased to have this type of support."
Coaches D209 thanks you for your commitment to our student-athletes. We are Proviso Proud!
