Students from Proviso East High School, Proviso West High School, and Proviso Mathematics and Science Academy attended the first Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council session on October 14 at the district’s administrative offices.
The Student Advisory Council, comprised of 17 selected students from District 209’s three high schools, was instituted by Superintendent Dr. Jesse J. Rodriguez as a way to get feedback on how the schools are run according to the schools’ main stakeholders as well as a way to provide lessons in leaderships to the students and build the District.
During their afternoon visit, the students toured the district’s central services offices, visiting the human resources department, the finance department, and central services administrators’ offices. In addition, they got to hang out in the superintendent’s office, perhaps thinking ahead to their own futures.
They later spoke with each other about where they hope to go to college and what they wish to study once there.
Dr. Rodriguez said that he plans to convene the Student Advisory Council a few more times during this current school year.
