Proviso Graduating Seniors Top $32.5 Million in Scholarships

Members of the Class of 2016 at Proviso East High School, Proviso West High School, and Proviso Mathematics and Science Academy have been awarded more than $32.5 million in scholarships from colleges, universities, and local organizations.
College-bound students from Proviso East High School earned a total of $7.1 million in scholarships and grants, continuing a trend of rising award numbers. Graduating seniors at Proviso West High School earned more than $11.4 million in scholarships, again topping the previous years’ marks. Graduating seniors from Proviso Mathematics and Science Academy won a total of more than $14 million in scholarships. The $32.6 million in awards were presented to the students based on criteria such as academics, community service, and activities.
Dr. Nettie Collins-Hart, superintendent of District 209, said that the seniors who were awarded the scholarships had worked hard for the awards.
"These scholarships recognize the efforts that students have put into their academics and other activities," she said. "These awards continue to show the high academic standards that our students are able to meet and the continued trend of more students earning larger awards. We congratulate them on their success and we wish them well in all of their future endeavors."
