The 55th edition of the Proviso West Holiday Basketball Tournament showed that it is the Chicago area’s most competitive holiday tournament with four days of competitive basketball by some of the very best high school teams in the Chicagoland area on December 26 through 30.
This included the host Proviso West Panthers, who won the tournament’s consolation title with a thrilling 37-35 win over Hillcrest on December 30, culminating a streak of three straight wins. They were led by the 15 points a game during the tournament by junior guard Emmanuel Cross along with the 9.8 rebounds per game by junior forward Elijah Gibson.
Highlights for Proviso East included wins over defending Class 2A state champions Uplift and Elgin-Larkin. They were boosted by 19 points per game from senior guard Antonio Williams and 15.5 points per game by junior forward Tyler Chisom.
Morgan Park High School of Chicago won the overall tournament championship with an 81-55 defeat of Fenwick High School, while another Chicago team, Bogan High School, won the third-place title with a 68-53 win over St. Joseph High School.
