On Thursday, September 22nd over one thousand Proviso Township High Schools parents filled PTHS halls and classrooms for this year’s "Back to School Night." District 209 teachers, staff, and administrators welcomed parents as key players in raising achievement and promoting student success.
"Our parents play a vital role in our school system," said PTHS 209 Superintendent Dr. Nettie Collins-Hart. "It was a joy to see the number of parents who came out to visit our schools and support their students. The showing was phenomenal."
PTHS Principals agreed. They say they owe a great deal of thanks to parents for supporting their students, supporting the schools, and helping them to make "Back to School Night" a great experience for teachers, students, and staff.
"We have to thank all of the parents who came out for Back to School Night," said Mr. Valente, Principal of Proviso East High School. "It was a huge success, and we hope that all of our parents and guardians had an enjoyable time. It really offered a great opportunity for them to see what educational experiences are about at Proviso East. We were elated by the great number of parents and guardians who took time out of their busy schedules to spend the evening with us. Teachers, staff, and coaches were extremely excited to have met the families of so many of our students."
"I was excited to see so many families come out for our annual Back to School Night," said PMSA principal, Mrs. Echols. "It was a great opportunity for parents to meet our phenomenal teachers who were eager to share their course goals, objectives and visions for successful learners. We want our parents to become involved in the life of our school, and we want them to know how important they are to the success of every student."
The Principal of Proviso West High School, Dr. Kirkwood, echoed those sentiments.
"We welcome the presence of parents in our schools," he said. "Back to School Night showed tremendous support by our parents. As we continue to work together in partnership, and as we continue to build bridges to success, we look forward to even greater attendance during Bring Your Parent to School Day on Oct 4th and Report Card Pick-Up on Oct 27th."
In addition to attending "Back to School Night," PTHS 209 hosts "Bring your Parents" to School Day on Tuesday, October 4th (from 7:50 a.m. - 3:20 p.m.) and Parent Teacher Conferences on October 27th. Parents are encouraged to attend these events and to contact the schools and conduct regular visits with teachers, faculty, staff, and administrators.
Thank you, parents! You are a vital part of Proviso Rising!
