Twenty-three students from the Classes of 2015 and 2016 at Proviso Mathematics and Science Academy have been named as AP Scholars by the College Board, which administers the Advanced Placement exams.

The students were recognized for at a minimum scoring at least a 3 out of a possible 5 on three or more AP exams during their high school careers. According to the College Board, students were rated based on the following categories:
  • AP Scholar: Granted to students who receive scores of 3 or higher on three or more AP Exams
  • AP Scholar with Honor: Granted to students who receive an average score of at least 3.25 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams
  • AP Scholar with Distinction: Granted to students who receive an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams
"The students from our schools who have been selected as AP Scholars are among the best and brightest," said Dr. Nettie Collins-Hart, superintendent of Proviso Township High Schools District 209. "They have worked hard for their achievement and have the opportunity to continue that success after high school."

Mrs. Theresa L. Kelly, President of the District 209 Board of Education, echoed those thoughts, saying that the AP Scholars serve as examples of the quality of students found at PMSA and across District 209.

"We have many quality students in our schools, and these students are great examples of that quality," she said. "They should be congratulated for their accomplishments and we wish them good luck in their future endeavors."

Dr. Bessie Karvelas, principal at PMSA, said that the AP Scholars should be honored for their achievement.

"I commend these 23 students for their outstanding commitment to their education," Dr. Karvelas said. "These students have dedicated themselves to their studies and have embraced the rigor of our curricula that is associated with academia."
