Proviso Township High Schools District 209 will host a community-based edition of Parent University from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Monday, October 24, at Proviso Baptist Church, 1116 South Fifth Avenue in Maywood
In this weeknight edition of Parent University, parents can learn more about paying for college and how the financial aid process work. They also can gain insights on how to talk to their students who are dealing with stresses related to school, relationships, and tragedies in the news.
This is the first of several smaller community-based Parent University events that are planned for the 2016-2017 school year. Planned in collaboration with the District and the Strengthening Proviso Youth Committee, the activity is part of the district’s parent enrichment through Title I and the Board of Education’s goal of improving stakeholder involvement.
"Parent University workshops provide good information that parents can use in helping their students succeed in high school and beyond," said Dr. Jesse J. Rodríguez, superintendent of District 209. "We invite parents to come out to our smaller workshops and learn more about succeeding in high school and moving on to either college or a career.
The Parent University is a series of workshops designed to prepare parents to help their students in high school and beyond. The event also features resources that are available to parents for their children, and students from Proviso East High School, Proviso West High School, and Proviso Mathematics and Science Academy can earn one hour of community service credit for each of their parents who attend.
The District is expecting a great turnout and encourages parents to spread the word. Students are also welcome to attend.
