April 24, 2017 10:39 AM
Proviso Township High Schools District 209 will host its latest edition of Parent University from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 3, 2017, at Aspire, 1815 South Wolf Road in Hillside.
The activity is part of the district’s parent enrichment through Title I and the Board of Education’s goal of improving stakeholder involvement. This event is planned in collaboration with the District and the Strengthening Proviso Youth Committee.
The Parent University is a series of workshops designed to prepare parents to help their students in high school and beyond. The event also features resources that are available to parents for their children, and students from Proviso East High School, Proviso West High School, and Proviso Mathematics and Science Academy can earn one hour of community service credit for each of their parents who attend.
The theme for this Parent University event is "Becoming a Champion – Helping Your Child to Succeed!" There will be presentations on how parents can help their adolescents to foster independence and also on strategies for supporting learning at home.
The District is expecting a great turnout and encourages parents to spread the word. Parents of students who will be freshmen in the 2017-2018 school year are especially encouraged to attend. Students are also welcome to attend.
