Proviso Township High Schools District 209 has held Parent University events this year at a variety of locations this year, in an effort to expand accessibility and participation.
Event organizers are pleased to announce that the latest edition of Parent University will be hosted at Irving Middle School in Maywood, on Wednesday, March 1, at 6:00 p.m.
"We are very excited about this opportunity to partner with Irving Middle School and District 89 in making this event available to parents at one of our fine foundation schools," said Mr. Dan Johnson, District 209 Director of Student and Family Services.
Parent University is designed to provide parents with valuable information to support student success and to help meet the Board of Education’s goal of improving parent and community engagement. Parent University events are planned in collaboration with the District and the Strengthening Proviso Youth Committee.
The theme for this Parent University event is "Becoming a Champion – Helping Your Child to Succeed!" There will be presentations on developing resilience and determination, and also on strategies for supporting learning at home. The event will feature community resources that are available to support students and families. Students from Proviso East High School, Proviso West High School, and Proviso Mathematics and Science Academy can earn one hour of community service credit for each of parent who attends.
Irving Middle School is located at 805 South 17th Avenue in Maywood. The program is scheduled from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Light refreshments will be provided.
The District is expecting a great turnout and encourages parents to spread the word. Those who are planning to attend are encouraged to register by clicking HERE
Parents of students who will be freshmen in the 2017-2018 school year are especially encouraged to attend. Students are also welcome!
