Kameron James, a senior at Proviso Mathematics and Science Academy and a quarterback and defensive back for the Proviso East High School football team, will continue his playing career and studies at Carthage College in Kenosha, Wisconsin, this fall.
Kameron, flanked by family and friends, officially signed his letter of intent in a ceremony in the PMSA main office on March 31. Having also considered Robert Morris University in Chicago; St. Norbert University in DePere, Wisconsin; Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and Kentucky State University in Frankfort, Kentucky; he said that he chose Carthage following an overnight visit to the school.
"It was a like a brotherhood already," said Kameron, who will study sports medicine and play quarterback at Carthage. "Now that I know where I’m going, I have my heart set on Carthage."
He will be joining Carthage College’s program, a NCAA Division III program that plays in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin, an athletics conference that includes area schools Elmhurst College and North Park University in Chicago. The Redmen finished the 2015 season with a 5-5 overall record.
Dr. Nettie Collins-Hart, superintendent of District 209, said that she is proud of Kameron.
"This is a great opportunity for Kameron to be able to continue his education after graduation," she said. "To be able to do so with the support of PMSA and Proviso East and his family is an asset that all students need in order to succeed."
