Mr. Jesse Davis of Maywood said that he was proud of the students that he met while visiting Proviso East High School on April 4.
"This is an example of your students here," he said, pointing to a few students in the crowd in Proviso East’s social room. "They explained what is offered here (during our tour). They did a beautiful job. It makes me proud to be a taxpayer here."
Mr. Davis was among the 30 members of the Maywood Senior Club to visit Proviso East on April 4. During their visit, they were treated to a demonstration of the precision of the Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (NJROTC) Color Guard, the excellence of the Proviso East jazz band, the skills of the school’s culinary arts students who provided a lunch of herb chicken and oven roasted red potatoes, and the knowledge and hospitality of the Proviso East Student Ambassadors and National Honor Society in tours of the school and conversations.
"We wanted to showcase the great students, teachers, and programs that we have at Proviso East High School," said Mr. Tony Valente, principal at Proviso East. "I am proud of the work that we are doing here, and our visitors from the Maywood Senior Club are welcome to return at any time."
Mr. Valente said part of the purpose of the visit, along with showcasing the school, was to begin and build relationships between students and members of the Maywood Senior Club. Following tours of the school, which included visits to classrooms, students interviewed their guests about their lives in Maywood, memories from high school, and advice that they would give to students today.
Mr. Joe Johnson, a member of the senior club, advised students to help others and to be an active members of society.
"I want you kids to consider that," said Mr. Johnson, who had worked in the technology department at Proviso East for 16 years. "But if you plow through any troubles that life brings you, when you get to our age, you’ll be some satisfied people."
Thank you to the students, faculty, and staff of Proviso East High School for their roles in showing that Proviso East High School is "Nothing But The Best!"
