Madrigal Singers to Host 41st Madrigal Dinner December 12 and 13

December 3, 2015 01:30 PM
Proviso West High School will be the scene of two days of lords and ladies, court jesters, and royalty at the 41st annual Madrigal Singers Dinner at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 12, and a matinee at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, December 13, at Proviso West High School.
The shows are a fundraiser for the Proviso East and Proviso West choral music departments that reenact a 15th–century royal court. Guests will be served a three-course candlelight meal in a dinner-theater atmosphere, with the cafeteria transformed into a castle. During this time, those in attendance will be entertained with Madrigal-style harmonies, dances, comedic and dramatic sketches, and traditional holiday vocal music.
Ms. Salina Watson, the Madrigal Singers sponsor, said that the Madrigal Singers in medieval times were singers hired by royals such as the queen to entertain at court.
District 209 has a long and rich tradition of outstanding Madrigal performances. Madrigal Alumni who had attended Proviso East High School, Proviso West High School, and Proviso Mathematics and Science Academy will participate in this year’s performance.
Tickets for the Madrigal Singers Dinner are $23 each for adults age 21 and over, with an early bird price of $20 if paid by Monday, November 30. For students 21 years old and younger, senior citizens, and Madrigal Alumni, the tickets cost $20 each. Attendance is by paid reservation only, with no tickets sold at the door. Final reservations and payments are due at the Proviso West choral music office by 3 p.m. on Monday, December 7. Cash or money orders are preferred. No refunds will be issued after Wednesday, December 9.
