December 18, 2014 03:20 PM
The Proviso East High School choir, concert band, jazz band, and marching bands wowed a large crowd at its Annual Winter Holiday Concert on December 4 in the school’s auditorium.
The students performed a selection of Christmas favorites as well as jazz and marching band favorites in front of more than 200 people. Among the selections performed were traditional Christmas carols such as "Joy to the World" and Beethoven’s "Joyful, Joyful" and more modern songs such as Donnie Hathaway’s "This Christmas" and "Give Love on Christmas Day" by Michael Jackson sung by the choir and "Winter Wonderland" by the concert band. The jazz band performed a series of jazz favorites by Michael Sweeney and Benny Golson, among others, while the marching band, led by drum major Davon Morrow, performed selections from the 2014-15 marching season.
In addition, concert attendees could view art work by Proviso East students.
"The Annual Winter Holiday Concert is a showcase of some of the best that Proviso East has to offer," said Mr. Tony Valente, principal at Proviso East. "I thank all of the students, faculty, and staff for their hard work in presenting as well as parents and the community for their continued support of the music and fine arts programs here."
