Faculty, staff members, and members of the Board of Education of the Proviso Township High Schools District 209 and specifically Proviso East High School teamed up with members of the community to present a Positive Presence for Proviso East students as they completed the last day of the 2014-15 school year on Wednesday, June 3.
Wearing special T-shirts for the occasions, District and school administrators; Mrs. Theresa Kelly, Board President; Ms. Claudia Medina, Board Secretary; Mr. Ned Wagner, Board member; and about 40 community members that included Maywood Mayor Edwenna Perkins stood at the exits of Proviso East High School and points in the surrounding area to wish the students a safe and happy summer.
District 209 and Proviso East High School would like to thank all of the members of the community who made this possible, including the Maywood Fire Department, the Maywood Police Department and the Village of Maywood. We also would like to thank Ms. Barbara Cole and the Maywood Park District for their work in providing an alternative location for students to visit as they provided free popcorn, water, pop, and an afternoon of open court basketball, board games, and movies at the park district’s building at Ninth Avenue and Madison Street.
"We wanted to show the students that the community cares for them," said Dr. Nettie Collins-Hart, superintendent of District 209. "By being a positive presence in the community on the last day of school, we hope that they will make the right decisions throughout the summer. We look forward to seeing all of our students when school begins again in August."
Thank you to everyone, and to our students, have a safe and happy summer!
