The Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corp (NJROTC) unit at Proviso East High School claimed three trophies at the annual Danielle Dennis-Town physical fitness meet at Bloom Trail High School in Chicago Heights.
Tyjuan Johnson, a Proviso East freshman, led the way, winning a third-place individual medal as he completed 142 sit-ups. That finish, along with a third-place trophy in the dodge ball portion of the meet, paced Proviso East to a fifth-place finish overall. It was the first overall trophy at a PT meet for Proviso East in nine years, according to Commander Darryl Person.
"We are very proud of the work that our NJROTC cadets have put in to earn this recognition," said Dr. Patrick Hardy, principal at Proviso East. "The students should be proud of their accomplishments and should continue to aspire for further greatness in becoming one of the best NJROTC units in the area."
Dr. Nettie Collins-Hart, superintendent of District 209, echoed those thoughts, saying that she was proud of the students.
"Our students should be proud of the end results of their hard work," she said. "We look forward to seeing and hearing more great things about our NJROTC cadets at Proviso East."
