Proviso East Honor Roll Students Get Honor at Banquet

The 85 Proviso East High School students who made the High and A Honor Rolls during the first semester were recognized for their achievements at the 2014 First Semester Honors Banquet on February 6 at Proviso East.
The students who were honored were named to either the A Honor Roll or the High Honor Roll. Those on the A Honor Roll currently maintain a grade point average of 3.5 to 3.9, while those on the High Honor Roll have a grade point average of at least a 4.0. The students and their families were honored with certificates and a dinner of chicken and pasta.
"Their hard work and dedication is a model for the community," said Mr. Tony Valente, principal at Proviso East. "To get straight A’s or to get good grades, that’s an accomplishment. These kids are our future leaders."
Rev. Michael Wright, pastor at Light of Liberty Worship Center in Oak Park, said that it was up to the students to make a good first impression. He used the biblical story of David and Goliath, saying that they can be great leaders.
"You’re going to be great people," said Rev. Wright, . "What you have to do is to take what you got and make the most of the opportunities you have here. Stand up and take advantage of everything you have at Proviso East High School."
In addition, two honor roll students, Vanessa Martinez and Asia Dickerson, each won a bicycle for correctly solving puzzles that came with prize bags that they received when they arrived at the banquet.
