Proviso East Celebrates Pirate Pride at Homecoming

October 30, 2015 02:00 PM
Former and current students along with faculty, staff, and the Proviso East High School community celebrated Homecoming October 13 through 17.
It was a week of activities and spirit days that culminated with the annual homecoming parade, the football game, and the annual Homecoming dance as Proviso East celebrated the theme, "Candy Land."

"We had a great week celebrating Pirate Pride and everything that is great about Proviso East," said Dr. Patrick Hardy, principal at Proviso East.  "Proviso East is a great school, and we need to be sure to continue to mark those achievements of past students as well as current students."

The week began with a series of spirit days, culminating in a pep rally on Friday, October 16, in the Field House that featured performances by the marching band and Pirateers, and the introduction of the fall sports teams, including the football team. In addition, students and alumni marched in the Homecoming Parade (which can be viewed below or by clicking here), the football team played its annual Homecoming game (this year against Addison Trail) and students attended the Homecoming Dance on Saturday, October 17.
Dr. Nettie Collins-Hart, superintendent for District 209, said that Homecoming was a great success for Proviso East.
"For everyone who was in attendance at the game on Saturday, I hope you had as much fun as I did watching our band and drum line shine, seeing a great performance from our cheerleaders, and recognizing our homecoming court and seniors," she said. "I want to thank the Proviso East staff for inviting me to be able to be a part of celebrating everything that is Proviso East."
The Homecoming Court, including the Homecoming King and Queen, were also crowned and recognized. Winning this year’s crown as Homecoming King and Homecoming Queen were Willie Greenwood and Cinia McCray. Cinia said that being named Homecoming Queen was an "awesome accomplishment."
"I’m very excited," she said. "This is something I’ll be able to talk about for the rest of my life."
Willie said that the recognition showed him to be a leader at Proviso East.
"People look up to you," he said. "I had a lot of people behind me."
The following students were named to the Homecoming Court:
  • Freshman Prince - Devin Spencer
  • Freshman Princess - Michelle Luciano
