The Proviso East High School football team has earned praise for their sportsmanship from the state athletic commission for their actions during their Homecoming game on October 17.
The Illinois High School Association commended the Proviso East football team for "Sporting A Winning Attitude" during their home finale against Addison Trail on October 17. According to the report submitted by Mr. Gerald Blum, who was the lead official at that game, the Proviso East players "played very hard," acknowledged good plays by the opposing team, and "would offer a hand to help the Addison Trail players up." In addition, Mr. Blum said that the entire team was very respectful when they addressed the officials.
"This was by far the best example we have seen this year by a team in terms of sportsmanship and respect," Mr. Blum said in his report. "The coaches and the entire school community should be proud of these young men."
Dr. Patrick Hardy, principal at Proviso East, said that the school stresses good academics and good
sportsmanship to all of its student-athletes.
"It is a good sign that we’re teaching the right things," he said. "Part of winning starts with a winning attitude, and our student-athletes should be commended for showing that winning attitude and making us proud."
Dr. Nettie Collins-Hart, superintendent of District 209, echoed those thoughts, saying that in the end, the team won where it was most important.
"It was a great show of sportsmanship," said Dr. Collins-Hart, who attended the game. "I would like to thank our student-athletes for a perfect example of sportsmanship and for making us proud."
Way to go in helping to Keep Proviso Rising, Pirates!
