The Proviso East Chapter of DECA had its senior appreciation brunch at Proviso East High School to celebrate the DECA 2014 students for their hard work and commitment to the organization this year.
Marketing leadership recognition awards were given to all the students in the Proviso East chapter, said Mrs. Monica Evans, a Proviso East business teacher and advisor of the chapter.
"They were instrumental in helping me to implement the four points of the DECA diamond insignia: civic consciousness, leadership training, vocational understanding, and social intelligence through collaboration, teamwork, and bringing in new ideas," she said.
DECA is a club in which the students at Proviso East High School are members as a result of them being enrolled in the marketing cooperative work study class. It is a co-curricular organization designed as an integral part of the classroom instructional program. The goal of DECA is to develop business leaders in the area of marketing and management and entrepreneurship goals.
Mr. Tony Valente, principal at Proviso East, said that the club has been helpful in teaching business concepts to students.
"Students need to understand how business works more than ever, and DECA has been helpful in reaching that goal," he said. "I congratulate the seniors on all of their hard work in making this club a success, and I wish them well as they graduate."
