Cinia McCray, a Proviso East High School senior, recently was nominated for selection to the 2016 McDonald’s All-American Game.
Cinia, a guard on the Proviso East girls’ basketball team, averaged 20.3 points per game as she led the Lady Pirates to a 27-4 record this season and a berth in the sectional title game. While she was not named to the roster that will play in the McDonald’s All-American Game on March 30 at the United Center in Chicago, she said that she was honored to be nominated and plans to attend the game to root for friends on the team.
"I felt really grateful and blessed," said Cinia, who will attend and play basketball at North Carolina A&T State University next year. "I am just happy that I was able to experience this and it’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience."
Dr. Patrick Hardy, principal at Proviso East, said that he was proud of Cinia.
"Cinia is a great asset to the basketball program and a role model for other students at Proviso East," he said. "We are proud of her, and we look forward to further good things from her."
Dr. Nettie Collins-Hart, superintendent of District 209, said that Cinia deserved the honors that she has received.
"She is to be commended for her effort and her accomplishments," she said. "I wish her well in all of her future endeavors."
