Marching bands and drum lines will be the entertainment when Proviso East High School hosts its 13th annual Battle of the Bands at noon on Saturday, May 16.
The Proviso East Battle of the Bands will bring together marching bands and drum lines from around the Chicago area. Expected to perform along with the host Proviso East marching band will be Proviso West High School, the Proviso East Alumni Band, marching bands from Chicago, and the Roosevelt Middle School (Bellwood) marching band as well as several area high school drum lines
"The people who come will be entertained really well by the bands," said Mr. Reginald Wright, director of the Proviso East bands. "It’s something the community likes and it is supported by the community. It’s a very good event for the area."
Mr. Tony Valente, principal at Proviso East, said that the Battle of the Bands is a good showcase for Proviso East.
"The Proviso East marching band is one of the many groups that we take pride in at Proviso East," he said. "The Battle of the Bands has been among the premiere high school band events in the area. We are looking forward to a great competition and a great afternoon of entertainment."
The Battle of the Bands will take place in the Proviso East Stadium. In case of rain, the performances will be moved indoors inside the Proviso East Fieldhouse.
