Proviso West High School will be the scene for great music, marching bands, and student entertainment when Proviso East High School hosts its 12th annual Battle of the Bands from noon to 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 17.
Moved to Proviso West due to construction at the nearby Proviso East Fieldhouse, the Proviso East Battle of the Bands will bring together more than seven marching bands and drum lines from around the Chicago area and beyond. Among the competing schools will be defending champion Trotwood (Ohio) High School, Oak Park (Michigan) High School, Dunbar High School, Rich East High School, and Rich Central High School as well as the hosts, Proviso West High School.
"The bands themselves are the attraction," said Mr. Reginald Wright, director of the Proviso East bands. "They can show off what they’ve done throughout the year."
The competition will feature college-level judging by the directors of the Central State University (Ohio) bands. In addition, the Proviso East alumni band also will be helping out with the organization of the competition.
Mr. Tony Valente, principal at Proviso East, said that the Battle of the Bands is a good showcase for Proviso East.
"The Proviso East marching band is one of the many groups that we take pride in at Proviso East," he said. "The Battle of the Bands has been among the premiere high school band events in the area. With the participation of the Proviso West marching band and other bands this year, we are looking forward to a great competition and a great afternoon of entertainment."
Tickets to the Proviso East Battle of the Bands are $5 each, and are available at the door. Be sure to check out one of the premiere marching band competitions in the area!
