The Proviso East High School Marching Band won several top honors at the Rich Central High School Battle of the Bands on October 18 in Olympia Fields.
"The Marching Musical Machine of the Mid West" took home trophies for best percussion, best auxiliary, and best winds. The band also claimed first place in the AAA Show band division.
Mr. Reginald Wright, band director at Proviso East, said that although he saw room for improvement with the band, he believes that it did a great job in winning the competition in its division.
"The interest of our students is high and can be shown in their willingness to attend early bird class in the morning at 6:45 a.m. until 7:45 a.m. before school," he said. "I believe a higher standard of musical ability can be achieved with continuous practices and rehearsals."
Mr. Tony Valente, principal at Proviso East, said that the win at Rich Central was another success in a long run of them under Wright’s watch.
"The marching band under the direction of Mr. Wright has been a source of pride at Proviso East for a long time," Mr. Valente said. "We are proud of the work that the marching band and Mr. Wright have done and wish them continued success."
The win at Rich Central continues a long tradition of excellence for the Proviso East Marching Band. Congratulations!
