Ajah Morgan, a senior at Proviso East High School and a member of the Proviso East girls’ track team, will continue her track career and studies at Clarke University in Dubuque, Iowa, this fall.
In a ceremony in the Proviso East Auditorium on May 11, Ajah, flanked by her parents and teammates, signed her letter of intent to attend Clarke University, a NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) school.
Having also considered Marquette University, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Illinois State University, and Western Illinois University, she said that she plans to major in athletic training.
"They had a really good track team and the school is really nice," Ajah said. "They have good educational programs and majors. Everything in that school is new."
Dr. Patrick Hardy, principal at Proviso East, discussed how some of the greats are not remembered for the failures that they experienced until they achieved the success for which they are remembered. He said that the greats such as Thomas Edison and Michael Jordan were always looking ahead.
"Success is never what you did, but what you will do," Dr. Hardy said. "For the greatest, it was always the next thing. What’s the next great accomplishment and how are you planning for it?"
Dr. Brian Colbert, assistant principal for athletics and activities at Proviso East, said that Ajah has an excellent opportunity before her.
"She’s given herself an opportunity to move on and get a college education," he said. "We’re very proud of what she’s done."
