Dr. Nettie Collins-Hart, superintendent of Proviso Township High Schools District 209, recently was awarded the Orchid Award from Top Ladies of Distinction's West Suburban Chicago Chapter.
Top Ladies of Distinction, Inc., is an international, professional, and humanitarian organization with a membership of more than 3,000 women. The Orchird Award honors" extraordinary women who are bold in service," according to the program from a luncheon honoring Dr. Collins-Hart and other award winners in May.
Dr. Collins-Hart was nominated for the award by Mrs. Kim Echols, assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction for District 209 and a fellow member of Top Ladies of Distinction's West Suburban Chicago Chapter. Ms. Mary Clements, chair of the 2014 Orchid Awards for Top Ladies of Distinction's West Suburban Chicago Chapter, said that Dr. Collins-Hart's nomination stood out for her service, particularly in her development of literacy projects at her former school district in North Carolina and at District 209.
"Rarely do you see an administrator who puts herself in that position," Ms. Clements said. "We were looking for women who are phenomenal in service in the west suburbs. (Mrs. Echols) thought that Dr. Collins-Hart was ideal."
Dr. Collins-Hart said that she was honored to receive the recognition.
"It is humbling to be recognized by a group that I respect as much as I do as the Top Ladies of Distinction," she said. "I appreciate Mrs. Echols for taking the time to nominate me for this award, and I look forward to continuing to serve in the manner that I have."
Congratulations, Dr. Collins-Hart!
