D209 Welcomes Parent Coordinators: Empowering Students, Families, and Communities

August 2, 2017 10:24 AM
D209 Parent Coordinators
District 209 is excited to introduce Parent Coordinators Dr. Eva Kardaras and Delinda Hyde, who joined the Proviso Township High Schools’ community in July.  The Parent Centers and Parent Coordinators are an important component of our parent and community engagement strategic initiative.  The main focus of the work of the Coordinators will be to create a welcoming environment in our schools and to empower parents.
Superintendent Dr. Jesse J. Rodriguez says, "this initiative is a powerful way to help us meet the District 209 Board of Education goal of empowering students, families and communities.  The relationships and partnerships developed in the Parent Centers will help us achieve One Team, One Goal, One Proviso."
"We are very excited about the Parent Centers and the work that will be done by the coordinators to build relationships with parents and community members, and to support parents in helping their children succeed," says Dan Johnson, District 209 Director of Student and Family Services.
Parents may visit the Parent Center, or contact the Parent Coordinators for questions regarding a number of topics.  Those topics might include identifying the correct academic department or staff member for a particular concern, learning more about PowerSchool and Naviance, or learning more about additional school programs and resources.  The Parent Centers are conveniently located for all D209 families, near the main entrances of both the Proviso East and Proviso West campuses.
The Parent Coordinators will work with members of the community interested in volunteering to support school activities.  The Coordinators look forward to strengthening and expanding networks with the community.  Stay tuned to hear more from Parent Coordinators about upcoming events, programs and opportunities to make a difference!
Meet Your Parent Coordinators
Phot_EvaMy name is Dr. Eva Kardaras.  I am a Chicago native and graduate of DePaul University. I have earned my graduate degrees from Wichita State University in Kansas. My background is in Clinical/Community Psychology with an emphasis on minority health issues, prevention and community empowerment.
I have spent the past 17 years working with various community based organizations, academic settings and training facilities all focused on youth empowerment, academic success and community involvement. My experience has exposed me to different aspects of academic, business and community needs and outcomes.
I look forward to utilizing my experience working with students and parents to help make a positive difference in our school community.
Photo_DelindaMy name is Delinda Hyde. I am a long time resident of the district and a graduate of Proviso East. My early work career was spent with the phone company, but I eventually found my way to Proviso East High School as the secretary in the Guidance Department. I continued to work for the District in various positions between East and West until I moved to Atlanta in 2006. There, I spent a rewarding 9 years working in an all girls’ school as a member of the school’s leadership and student support teams. I returned home in 2015 to be near my family and my grandson, Nate, who is 4 years old now.
One of my favorite quotes is a couple of lines from a document that was written by one of the founders of The Atlanta Girls’ School. "Find work that profits your souls and gives you purpose. Leave each corner of the world better than the way you found it." When I first heard this, I realized this was exactly what I had been doing during my many years of working in schools. Returning to District 209 does, indeed, profit my soul and gives me purpose. I am excited to be the Parent Coordinator for Proviso West and I am looking forward to supporting our parents at District 209.
