"Every day, our teachers, staff, and administrators are hard at work providing a quality education to our students," said Dr. Nettie Collins-Hart, superintendent of District 209. "Our staff members being recognized by the Illinois State Board of Education shows the great work that is being done at all of our schools, and we are always pleased when others recognize it. I thank the ISBE for its recognition of the quality educators from our schools."
The Proviso East English 3 Team that will be recognized consisted of Ms. Walker, the team leader and now assistant principal for educational services at Proviso East; Ms. Katz, the special education liaision on the team, and Ms. Glickman and Mr. Alexander, Proviso East English teachers.
"It’s an absolute pleasure to work with everyone and have an opportunity to support students," Ms. Walker said. "They’re risk takers and passionate about what they do."
Mrs. Harris said that she was honored to be nominated for the award.
"It’s good knowing what you’re doing is appreciated," she said.
Ms. Paulus said that she was honored to have nominated for the award by Dr. Karvelas.
"All of the long hours, hard work, and dedication to my students have paid off and I am proud to be recognized by the Illinois State Board of Education," Ms. Paulus said.
The following comments were made about Dr. Karvelas by Dr. Collins-Hart, who nominated her:
"Dr. Karvelas is a selfless leader, and she is a strong contributor to the entire administrative team. She has a zest for the use of data and has brought her expertise in the use of data to bear on the entire operations of the district, not only PMSA. In her two years here, Dr. Karvelas has provided strong leadership in helping the leadership team formulate and look at new ways of doing things in a manner that is critical, but does not appear to be criticism, while building leadership capacity throughout her school."
The seven staff members will be recognized at the Those Who Excel Awards Banquet in Normal on October 17.
Congratulations to all of our award-winning educators!
