Proviso Township High Schools District 209 is partnering with The Answer, Inc., in The Answer’s sixth annual Walk-a-Thon Fundraiser on Saturday, May 2, at Proviso East High School.
The fundraising walk, which will take place from noon to 4 p.m. on May 2, will raise money to send children and adults with developmental disorders to special camps in June. The walk-a-thon also will raise money for other programs to benefit families impacted by autism. In 2014, the walk raised $8,000 that enabled The Answer, which is based in Forest Park, to sponsor 25 children and young adults as they attended the Special Camps for Special Citizens Horseback Riding camp in Winfield, Illinois.
Among those scheduled to participate in the walk-a-thon is Dr. Nettie Collins-Hart, superintendent of District 209. She will be among several District administrators who will take part.
"Part of education is finding different ways to serve our community, and walking with The Answer allows us to be an example to our students in serving the community," Dr. Collins-Hart said. "It is an honor to partner with a local group such as The Answer and to benefit our community."
