Help Available for Grandparents Raising Grandchildren
Are you a Grandparent Raising Grandchildren?
The Caregiver Specialists at West Suburban Senior Services are here to help. Any adult age 55 or older caring for a child, 18 years or younger, is welcome to join our Grandparents Raising Grandchildren program. We offer a variety of services to this group including: Support groups, which provide connections with other caregivers in the community; Links, which provide connections to community resources; Gap Filling, which helps relatives obtain supplies or services for their children; Educational Opportunities, which educates on a variety of topics including parenting skills, self-care, legal and financial issues; and Counseling, which offers caregiver counseling, grief support, and family meetings for problem solving and processing difficult emotions.
Support Groups meet twice per month. On the second Thursday of each month, grandparents meet from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. to discuss a variety of issues over coffee and snacks. On the fourth Tuesday of each month, we invite the children and grandparents to join together from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. We provide dinner and childcare at these meetings and hope that families will find friendship and support.
Groups are located at 8300 Roosevelt Road in Forest Park. Please contact the Caregiver Specialists with any questions: Jennifer Nagy, LSW and Chrissy Frueh, BSW at 708-405-6996. We look forward to hearing from you.
