On Tuesday, November 14th, the Blackhawks youth hockey staff conducted a floor hockey clinic for Proviso East Freshmen. The Proviso East Health and Wellness Department was selected by the Chicago Blackhawks as a Get Out And Learn (G.O.A.L.) participant. G.O.A.L. emphasizes the importance of exercise and healthy living while providing schools with the equipment to teach hockey in physical education classes.
Proviso East staff was excited about the opportunity for freshman students to become introduced to the sport of hockey, while receiving instruction from a premier organization like the Chicago Blackhawks as well as receiving brand new hockey equipment.
"It was exciting to be chosen as a clinic site because it is important for our students to see that professional organizations give back to the community. Our students were exposed to a professional organization that cares about the next generation," said Mrs. Tracy McCormick, Physical Education/NJROTC Department Chair.
The students were thrilled that the Blackhawks organization came to Proviso East. The Proviso East Key Club even showed their appreciation to the Blackhawks youth hockey staff by decorating the gym with Blackhawks posters.
During the Blackhawks G.O.A.L. clinic, students played hockey and learned about teamwork, practice, and perseverance. Students enjoyed the individual drills as well as the scrimmage and were also excited to receive a GOAL school kit, which consisted of school supplies. Some lucky students also received a Chicago Blackhawks shirt.
