Building Bridges to Success: PTHS Opens Professional Learning Library for Faculty and Staff
Forest Park...Proviso Township High Schools is continuing to Build Bridges to Success. On Tuesday, October 11th District 209 will host a ribbon cutting ceremony for the opening of its very first faculty and staff Professional Learning Library.
The library creates a hub for teachers filled with resource materials that support professional growth and teaching excellence.
"Teaching excellence and professional development are key components to producing successful learners and ensuring that our teachers have the greatest impact in their classrooms," said PTHS 209 Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction, Dr. Cheryl Pruitt. "Our library supports that. It is an open place filled with resources for our teachers to research, collaborate, and gather materials that support their professional growth and their impact in their classrooms."
The PTHS 209 Professional Learning Library will be located on the 5th floor of Proviso Mathematics and Science Academy (Room 511). Teachers district wide can stop in as needed, check-out literature, and collaborate with others. The library is already filled with an extensive selection of materials for teachers including: research and reference material, lesson plans, curriculum guides, and reading materials for teachers and students. As Proviso Township High Schools continues to foster its professional learning communities, the new library offers teachers quality educational tools—right at their fingertips.
"Teachers by definition should be continuous learners," said Mr. Wardisiani, science department chair at PMSA. "Teachers who continue in personal and professional development tend to be better teachers. With the Professional Learning Library, we will have direct access to curriculum materials for professional growth. It’s great that we have current resources and reference material. From information on classroom management to integrating learning technology, we have all of those resources right here in the library at no cost."
The opening and ribbon cutting for PTHS 209’s Professional Learning Library will be held on Tuesday, October 11th at 5:00 p.m. All teachers are invited to join the celebration and take part in the ceremony. To learn more, please contact the Office of Curriculum and Instruction at 708.338.5934.
