Parents at Proviso East High School, Proviso West High School, and Proviso Mathematics and Science Academy will be able to gain insights into their students’ day at school at the annual "Bring Your Parents to School Day" on Wednesday, October 1.

"Bring Your Parents to School Day" is one of District 209’s largest parent involvement initiatives of the year. This event is part of the Board of Education’s ongoing efforts to promote more outreach to the parents and the community.

"Successful students need their parents to be invested in their education," said Mr. Daniel Adams, president of the Board of Education. "Through ‘Bring Your Parents to School,’ parents can learn more about what their students’ day is like at school, and learn how they can help their students be even more successful."

"Bring Your Parents to School Day" has been a tradition in District 209 since 2002, when it was first introduced by then-Board of Education President, Mrs. Theresa L. Kelly. Since then, the event has spread to school districts across Illinois, and has been a great opportunity for parents to connect more with their students’ schools.

"We encourage all parents to visit and learn about their students’ day at school," said Dr. Nettie Collins-Hart, superintendent of District 209. "Parental involvement is critical to our students’ performance, and we want more parents to come into the schools throughout the day and continue to be active and engaged throughout the year."

Parents who attended last year’s Bring Your Parents to School Days in October and February said that they appreciated the closer looks at their students’ daily lives at school.

"I think that it’s a very good gesture to the parents to come in and see what’s going on in the classroom," said Mr. Craig Cooper, who attended Bring Your Parents to School Day at Proviso West with his daughter, Yamari Jimenez. "It builds rapport between the parents and the teachers."

Ms. Gabriela Torres, whose daughter, Cecilia Torres, was a junior at Proviso East last year, said that she appreciated visiting the school where she had once been a student herself.

"We get to share their experiences," Ms. Torres said. "I graduated from here, and I like being able to see the teachers again."

Doors open for "Bring Your Parent to School Day" at Proviso East, Proviso West, and PMSA at 7:50 a.m. on Wednesday, October 1. We look forward to seeing you there!
