A Proviso West High School English teacher who recently won a state award was recognized by the Proviso Township High Schools District 209 Board of Education at its regular meeting on Wednesday, October 15, at Proviso West.
Ms. Lindsey Coppola has been designated a winner of the Award of Recognition by the Illinois State Board of Education’s Those Who Excel selection committee. Ms. Coppola will be honored with another District 209 instructor, Ms. Erin Mason, an English teacher at Proviso Mathematics and Science Academy, at the Those Who Excel Banquet in Normal on October 25.
Mr. Joseph Kosina, a Proviso West assistant principal, read from a letter by Mr. Oscar Hawthorne, saying that Ms. Coppola has been instrumental in "implementing significant change to improve academic performance and college readiness for our students." He added that students and parents are committed to her and recognize her as a role model.
"Parents see her as sincere, supportive, and transparent about student learning," Mr. Kosina read. "Ms. Coppola understands that young adults thrive on positive relationships and she has mentored countless students over the years. She is extremely deserving of a Those Who Excel Award."
