Two Proviso East High School students were honored for their achievements by the Proviso Township High Schools District 209 Board of Education at the Board’s regular meeting on September 13 at Proviso East.
Jennifer Perez, a Proviso East senior, was named the third-place winner in the annual "Be Heard: One Vote Can Change the World Essay Contest" sponsored by Cook County Commissioner, Richard Boykin, in June. She won a $500 cash prize and she was recognized with the other winners in the contest by the Cook County Board of Commissioners at their meeting on July 13.
Also recognized was Jon Sylvester, a Proviso East senior, for his accomplishments in track and field. Dr. Patrick Hardy, principal at Proviso East, said that Jon has made the all-conference track team for the last three years. After taking second in the 400-meter hurdles in a national meet, Jon is now ranked 15th in the country among 17- and 18-year-olds in that event.
Congratulations to both Jennifer and Jon!
