Proviso East Scholars, Girls’ Basketball Team Celebrated by Board of Education

Twenty Proviso East High School students along with the Proviso East girls’ basketball team were honored for their achievements by the Proviso Township High Schools District 209 Board of Education at the Board’s regular meeting on Tuesday, March 8, at Proviso East.
 
Nineteen students were recognized for their role in the school’s performance expectation 2016 ACT Prep Program and "Strive for Five Campaign." As part of the program, the students either had perfect attendance in the ACT Prep Program, showed growth in the practice exam scores of two to four points, and/or showed subject area growth of five to nine points.
 
"I’m happy to report their achievement," said Dr. Patrick Hardy, principal at Proviso East. "Thank you (students) for your dedication and your willingness to stick with the program."
 
The following students were recognized for their achievement in either the ACT Prep Program or the "Strive for Five Campaign:"

  • Jocelyn Manjarrez
  • Brandon Morgan
  • Javion Osborne
  • Michael Preston
  • Rebecca Reyes
  • Miriam Rosales
  • Rosendo Torres
In addition, Proviso East students, Jessenia Arredondo and Kewan Clemons were recognized for showing "GRIT" (Guts, Resolve, Intellect, Talent) in achieving in the programs despite personal adversity.
 
The Board also honored the Proviso East girls’ basketball team. The team members achieved much during the recently completed 2015-2016 season, winning a regional championship with a 27-4 overall record and winning the West Suburban Conference’s Gold Division title with a perfect 12-0 conference record. In addition, the team won the Oswego East Holiday Tournament in December.
 
The following members of the Proviso East girls’ basketball team were recognized:
  • Savannah Clark, who also was named to the all-tournament teams at the Trinity Thanksgiving Tournament in November and the Oswego East Tournament in December.

  • Damaris Green
  • Caprice Hairston, who also was named to the all-tournament teams at the Trinity Thanksgiving Tournament in November and the Oswego East Tournament in December.
  • O’Shaye Henry
  • Cinia McCray, who also was named to the all-tournament team at the Trinity Thanksgiving Tournament in November and was named the Most Valuable Player at the Oswego East Tournament in December.
  • Kelsee McGowan
  • Keimari Rimmer
  • Jaquail Ross
  • Nachelle Rouse
  • Emani Washingson
Several members also received all-conference honors and were recognized by the Board. Savannah Clark, Caprice Hairston, Damaris Green, and Cinia McCray were named to the 2015-2016 West Suburban Conference girls’ basketball all-conference team, while Cinia, Kelsee McGowan, and Jonquail Ross were named to the WSC girls’ basketball all-academic team. In addition, Cinia was honored for being nominated for the McDonald’s All-American High School Basketball Team.
 
"We can’t be more proud of them," said Mrs. Theresa L. Kelly, president of the Board of Education.
