Proviso Township High Schools District 209 will welcome parents and students to a new school year with "Back to School Night" from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, September 8, at Proviso East High School, Proviso West High School, and Proviso Mathematics and Science Academy.
The "Back to School Night" is an annual event that is designed to build relationships between parents and schools and introduce parents to their students’ teachers. At this event, parents may visit classrooms, meet teachers and find out what their students will be learning.
"It’s an opportunity for the parents to come and meet the teachers and the administration and discuss ways they can help their students be successful in their high school careers," said Dr. Jesse J. Rodríguez, superintendent for District 209. "Face-to-face meetings tend to make getting information across to parents easier. By providing an opportunity for them to become more familiar with their students’ schools, parents are able to see what their students are doing in their classes and what supports are available for their students to achieve success."
Mrs. Teresa D. McKelvy, President of the Board of Education, said that parents will learn much about their students’ school at Back to School Night. She said that this event is part of the Board’s ongoing efforts to promote more outreach to the parents and the community.
"Visiting the school on Back to School Night is a good way for parents to learn about their students’ classes and to learn about ways they can help their students be successful in their studies," Mrs. McKelvy said. "It is always beneficial for a student when their parents are invested in their education, and we invite parents to take advantage of this opportunity to meet with their student’s teachers."
We look forward to seeing all parents!
